To Cube or Not to Cube

For some packing cubes are a must have when it comes to packing for trips. I know many people, primarily women who not only like their packing cubes but get excited to use them, such as myself. At the same time, I know many who don’t use packing cubes because it feels easier to just throw everything in their bag. These suitcases often look like a bomb went off in them from the moment they are packed to when they are unpacked at home. There is no right or wrong answer as everyone is different.

A common question people ask is if packing cubes save space and my answer is kind of. If space saving is your goal, then a compression packing cube will be a better option for you. Overall, the typical packing cube saves some space by adding organization to your suitcase. I prefer to use packing cubes for longer trips or trips that require more outfits and bigger suitcases. For shorter trips I tend to only use small zip bags for items like toiletries, makeup and jewelry. The whole idea is the organization improves your trip by limiting the time you are digging in your suitcase looking for items or trying to get excessive wrinkles out of your clothes. Who wants to spend all that time in their room trying to find something when they could be out having fun. I truly believe organization leads to more fun, less stress and a tidy hotel or stateroom.

I like to sort my packing cubes by category so I can pull out the cube I need and grab the item I desire. Then I can zip it back up, place it back in my suitcase and be on my way. Often, I like to sort by categories like day outfits and night outfits and undergarments and beyond. Another way to sort is by the categories on the packing list you are using. The most important part is packing in a way that makes sense to you. I like folding or rolling my clothes to avoid wrinkles, but even if your way of sorting is just throwing items in the cubes by category you are still improving your organization.

Overall, this doesn’t need to be complicated or complex. Don’t forget to have fun with it. Pick cubes that fit your personality. There are many options out there from fun prints to customizable initials and low-key neutrals there is something out there for everyone. Thats the fun thing about this is there are no wrong answers and lots of room for your personality to shine while adding ease and more time for fun to your vacation.
